Background to SiP 3

The objective of SiP 3 - Professional Ethics is for students to acquire knowledge and insight into the Professional Code of Ethics of The Dutch Association of Psychologists (NIP, 2007) and to be able to adequately apply this code to practical situations.

Upon completion of this SiP, the student will be able to understand:

• what the NIP Professional Code of Ethics entails and what the rules are;
• recognise violations of the professional code in any given situation.

Upon completion of this SiP, the student will be able to understand:

• recognise how violations of the professional code might occur by applying the professional code of ethics;
• specify how to conduct themselves in an ethically responsible manner. If a number of articles in the code were to be found at odds with each other, then the student must be able to balance the ethical principles involved through substantiated reasoning.

This SiP has an introductory character and is intended for students who have little or no knowledge of professional ethics.
